I answered an ad for someone to appear in a taping for a musical performer’s TV show. There was no mention of who it was.
I got a call from the production office. Could I play chess, they asked. I answered truthfully: I knew th emoves, but was not a skilled player. In fact, I’ve played chess in a good short film (a link to it is below) and in a cable TV series with GZA of Wu Tang Clan, filmed in a legendary Greenwich Village chess shop.
Anyway, the CBS special, shown around the world on November 29, 2017, included the scene we shot that day in a Harlem park. Some of the park’s regular chess players taught us moves that would result in checkmate in three moves.
The scene was used by CBS to promote the special. It opened the second segment of the show.
