First of all, I want to thank all the little people
that I’ve had to crawl over on my way to this achievement.
Even those who stood in my way.
Don’t think I’ll ever forget any one of you.
I especially want to thank those who encouraged me.
When everyone else said “Give up”
or “What are you bothering for?”
or “What makes you think you could ever succeed?”
—both of you kept my morale up by saying
“You might as well keep at it—how much lower can you go?”
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Miss Monahan,
my third-grade teacher.
The memory of her inspiring words stayed with me
through thick and thin:
“There must be something you’ll be good at.”
